Here at DoggoRamps, we’re always on the lookout for potential gaps in the market when it comes to making life for dogs easier at home, especially in the world of dog ramps.
Over the past few years, we created the Small Bed Ramp, Couch Ramp, and Large Bed Ramp in order to give our four-legged family members a safer and more convenient way up and down from couches and beds.
During this time, we started to see that many pet owners also had the need for something smaller than a full-fledged ramp for the couch.
From customer inquiries and our own research, we learned that while many pups require help getting to and from their favorite hangout spots:
We value customer input, and after months of designing, building, and testing, we’re excited to officially launch our brand new StepRamp for dogs!
If you’re wondering whether the space-efficient StepRamp is the right fit for you and your dog, read on to discover everything you need to know about our newest product!
A StepRamp, which some may have previously called a “Pet Stramp”, is a compromise solution between pet stairs and a dog ramp. It offers dogs a slanted step that helps them up and down from their favorite places.
The DoggoRamps StepRamp combines the space efficiency of dog stairs with the ease of using a dog ramp. Rather than having multiple steps to climb, the pet stair and ramp combo only features one small step at the bottom. This reduces the amount of impact dogs experience getting to and from their preferred hangout spots. With a gentle slope comparable to one of the lower height settings on the DoggoRamps Couch Ramp, the StepRamp incline is also easy for dogs to navigate.
A Miniature Dachshund gives us a demo by using their DoggoRamps StepRamp to get on and off their armchair.
The StepRamp is designed for fairly active dogs who regularly jump on and off furniture and may even be starting to experience a little difficulty doing so. The StepRamp provides them with a helping step up and down to lessen the amount of stress they place on their joints.
Dean the Basset proudly stands on his DoggoRamps StepRamp.
While the StepRamp supports up to 200lbs. and can benefit dogs of all sizes from Chihuahuas to Basset Hounds, Labradors, and more, it still requires a small 6” hop from the bottom of the ramp to the floor.
This is why we call the StepRamp a “compromise solution”. While the jumping distance from the bottom of the ramp to the floor is smaller than a traditional house step, it may not be ideal for all dogs. For dogs or breeds that should avoid all impacts whatsoever, such as Dachshunds recovering from Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a full-fledged couch ramp will be necessary over pet stairs or a StepRamp.
However, with only one 6" step, the StepRamp is a much better option than nothing or even typical pet stairs. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, dogs want to be where they want to be. As an alternative to jumping, the StepRamp can help lessen the impact of hopping all the way on and off furniture.
The DoggoRamps StepRamp can easily be enjoyed by small, medium, and large breeds.
It’s also worth noting that the DoggoRamps StepRamp may be a great solution for dogs that enjoy a handful of different hangout spots in addition to the couch, such as ottomans, chairs, love seats, or window nooks. In these situations, having more than one full-fledged ramp in a room or placing one in a hallway may not be feasible, but the compact StepRamp could be the perfect fit!
One of the biggest benefits of the StepRamp is that it takes up less room than a full ramp. Measuring 17” wide and 14” deep, the ramp and step combo is a great solution for homes like condos where space can be an issue. It features a handy cubby hole on the side for storage too!
The StepRamp can also work as a great compliment to a couch ramp if your dog has more than one favorite place in the same area. For example, some pet owners may choose to setup a regular ramp for the living room couch and place a StepRamp for the chaise beside it.
Crusoe the Dachshund uses his Couch Ramp to get onto the sofa while his little sister Daphne enjoys the StepRamp to reach the chaise.
Like other DoggoRamps, the StepRamp also comes in different finish options to match your home and style. It is currently available in Walnut (a warmer tone), Clear Natural (a neutral option), and Coastal Grey (a cooler tone).
The Coastal Grey finish happens to be the perfect match for this bright yet minimal interior and the Schnauzer's coat!
That being said, the StepRamp only has one height setting with the back end measuring 14” tall. Should you be considering the StepRamp for your dog, we encourage you to check the height of your couch, chaise, window nook etc. to make sure it will be a good fit. To help you plan for your setup, keep in mind that the top of the StepRamp doesn’t need to be set flush to the top of your furniture. It’s perfectly natural for a dog to take one small step up from StepRamp to their hangout spot.
While the StepRamp may not be adjustable or collapsible, it still has many of the unique features our couch and bed ramps are known for:
Like our full-fledged ramps, the StepRamp is crafted out of solid maple hardwood. This helps provide dogs with the sturdiness and stability they need to confidently, safely, and reliably use an assistive device like a ramp.
As well, using hardwood makes all DoggoRamps, including the StepRamp, feel like a proper piece of furniture that blends seamlessly with your home’s interior.
The StepRamp features our famous anti-slip PAWGRIP. This smooth and rubbery surface provides incredible traction that’s stronger than any carpet.
Proper traction is an absolute necessity for dogs facing mobility issues. Any accidental slips can cause them to push their joints and limbs past a comfortable range of motion, so including PAWGRIP on the StepRamp was a MUST!
Similar to the DoggoRamps Couch Ramp, the StepRamp weighs only 15lbs. It also has a conveniently placed handle on the side making it easy to move around in order to suit you and your dog's needs.
